Poem added 12/11/22
Today we are reading and discussing 2 poems about walking with God and Living in His light. We are also reading a Christmas card poem that can be found in Living in God’s Rhyme.
Discussion:
WALK WITH GOD
For every season
There is a reason.
In the good times
And those not so
Our faith, it does grow,
As we find His rhymes.
With every day,
With every prayer,
God leads our way.
He’s always there.
Feast on God’s peace,
Find strength so kind,
His righteous way,.
Throughout our days
We shall then find
Will never cease.
Don’t know what to pray,
Then take a walk
And start to talk
To God in Heaven above.
He will show you His love
As you follow His way.

WALK IN THE LIGHT
There is a time
& there is a place
in this world we face
to hear His rhyme.
As we look around
we do hear the sound
of many voices
speaking their choices.
Whether slight or wrong,
their words ever strong,
spoken with the starkness
of living in darkness.
While those living in God’s sight
now live in His constant light.
With their eyes they see,
with their ears they hear,
knowing that fear
will never be.
Walking in the light,
always in God’s sight
throughout your earthly time
He will give you His rhyme.

Discussion:
This poem came to me in the Gospel of John, Chapter 11, where Jesus brings Lazarus back from the dead. Then after 2 days He told the disciples, “. . . Let us go to Judea again.” (John 11:7, NKJV) The disciples questing this and He replied, . . . if anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. But if one walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.” (John 11: 9-10, NKJV). Read Chapter 12: 42-50 for more on walking in the light.
Side note: Although I had read John’s Gospel numerous times before, it really came to life for me this time. Starting around Chapter 10 to the end it was like something I had never read before. The words I read suddenly came to life and gave meaning to me that I had never felt before.
The Christmas card poem can be found in God Still Rhymes on page 123.
THE EVERLASTING CHRISTMAS
What is it that we want,
That is for Christmas?
What is it that God wants,
That is for us?
To open the gift he has given us,
An expression of his love
As he looks down from above.
Through his grace this Christmas day
And every one before,
And those yet to come,
He has given us a present,
To live forever in his presence.
To live with eternal joy
Unwrap the gift of his son Jesus.
It’s not just this Christmas day
Or those of yesterday,
It is that every day can be
A Christmas day.
Today or tomorrow the gift is there
To become one of God’s heirs.
And so every day of the week
It is you and me he does seek.
If you have opened his gift, shout.
It isn’t just you this is about.
Sharing his gift is the most loving thing
We can do, so let your love sing.
We care for others because God so loves us.
He shows us his love through the life,
The life born as man, loving as God,
His gift of grace, his son Jesus.
Share the grace of his saving embrace
That love may be reborn this Christmas day.
(and every day)
Wishing you a most joyful Christmas
as we celebrate the birth of Jesus.
Reflection on The Everlasting Christmas
This was our 2016 Christmas card. The cards from 2015, 2014 and one from many years before
are in “God’s Rhyme” as The Christmas Progression.
Discussion:
An extra Christmas Card reading:
THE FIRST GIFT
Another year again gone by,
Another year older.
We are now near the lullaby,
Are we any bolder?
The manger
The birth
The star
And strangers
Have we met that baby boy child
So glorious and mild?
Is He more than a memory,
A nice Christmas story?
An everlasting gift of God’s
In the birth of His Son.
A miracle that seems at odds
To the world, this one.
With His birth
His death
And resurrection
Our sins
Forgiven
And now it is Christmas again.
His gift, open the door
And you just have to let Him in
And unwrap salvation.
AS WE CLOSE IN PRAYER, MAY WE CONTINUE IN PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father we come to you in prayer as we end today’s podcast. Dave and I thank You for Your leading us through the day and into tomorrow. We pray that today has been pleasing to You and honors Your glory.
We pray for our listeners and viewers; for their needs, healing and the salvation of those who have not yet accepted the gift of Your grace by faith.
We pray, Lord, for this world in which we live. Father, as Christians lead us to proclaiming the gospel where ever we are. May we do so in a loving way. Lead us to the truth of the days we are living in. We pray for the nation of Ukraine and its people; its leaders, those who have fled the country to find safety, those who are still trying to leave the country and those who are staying to fight the invading army of their enemy. May their faith and determination be an example to the entire world.
Dear Lord, prepare us and our listeners and viewers for the coming week. We pray that it is You we live for and You who leads us. As we walk with you this week, may it be Your hand clasped around our hand so we may feel the grasp of Your love.
We pray in the name of Jesus, our Savior and Redeemer.
Amen
